France and Portugal are expected to reenact the 2016 Euro Final in the 2024 Euro quarterfinals. The Volksparkstadion stadium will serve as the venue for the teams’ encounter on Saturday.

Both teams are entering the quarterfinals with weak performances in the round of 16. Portugal faced Slovenia a few days ago to earn a quarterfinal ticket.

The tight game went into extra time, where Portugal earned a penalty kick. With Ronaldo set to take the penalty, Portugal’s advancement seemed certain. However, Jan Oblak thwarted the living legend, taking the match into the penalty shootout.

Ronaldo eventually found redemption after successfully scoring the first penalty. However, even the questionable performance does not take away anything from the Roberto Martinez-led squad.

Portugal still stands as the best pick among the top football sportsbooks to win against France. One reason behind this is France’s subpar performance. In the four games at Euro 2024, France has yet to score in open play.

The team has only scored three times, one of which was a penalty versus Poland, and the rest were own goals. Belgium had every French fan on their toes until Kolo Munai stunned everyone with his own goal.

It is worth noting that France has only conceded one goal, and that too came from a penalty in the 1-1 draw.

  • France and Portugal have faced each other 5 times at the Euros. France won the first two while failing to win the most recent two.
  • Portugal has only won 1 of the 14 matches against France.
  • This is Portugal’s 7th time entering the Euros quarterfinals, the most for any team since 1996.
  • Portugal entered the semi-finals four out of six times, while France has progressed three times from its four major quarter final appearances.

France’s tightly-knit defense can prove too much for Portugal, putting the team on the back foot.

  • Winner: France
  • Under 2.5 goals in the game: Yes
  • France to finish with 0 goals conceded: Yes
